A Studio for the Digital Age

At Revolution Recording we have an in-depth understanding of digital audio technology which allows us to choose the best equipment based on the quality of sound it will have in a digital studio. We know that digital recording sometimes laks the warmth of traditional analogue methods and so we take care to include equipment and processing which can inject analoge warmth without sacrificing the pristine clarity of digital recording.

Acoustics

Auralex Project 2 acoustic treatment

In order to provide good acoustics for both recording and mixing, the Revolution Recording Studio has a symmetrical setup (for stereo imaging) with two large sofas (to absorb bass frequencies...and they're comfy too!) and Auralex Project 2 acoustic foam treatment.

Mics

Neumann TLM 103

Using the same capsule as the famous U87, this microphone provides an excellent sound for pretty much every application, but particularly on vocals and is the flagship mic of our studio.

SE Electronics Z3300

A large diagphram microphone with switchable polar patters, the Z3300 provides a pleasantly warm characteristic with versitility and is particularly good for acoustic instruments.

SE Electronics SE1 Matched Pair

Small diaphragm condenser microphones with a clean, accurate sound that are ideal for stereo recording.

Red5 RV10

A mid-range large diaphragm microphone with switchable patters and a less coloured character, suitable for auxiliary recording.

4x Red5 RVD9

These small dynamic microphones are primarily used on drums but can also be useful for recording guitar amplifiers.

2x Red5 RV4

Small diaphragm condenser microphones used on drums and rough recording tasks such as foley or effect recording.

Red5 RVD1

A large diaphragm dynamic microphone which is great for bass drumms and guitars.

Mic Pre's

DAV Electronics BG1

Although not much to look at, this mic pre has a fantastic sound with an incredible frequency response and ultra-low distortion, bringing out the best in any microphone for a crystal clear, 'larger than life' recording.

SPL Goldmike

Using a combination of solid state and valve circuitry, the Goldmike has an analogue warmth without making the recording noisy. Great on acoustic instruments, the Goldmike also has a 'Flair' effect which can be activated to provide a subtle enhancement.

4x Focusrite Pre's

Buil into the Studio's digital mixing console, these pre's have a clean, transparent sound.

Monitoring

PMC TB2S-A's

These monitors provide crystal clear playback to hear all the details in the mix and have excellent bass frequency extension. Simply the best monitors of their size we have ever heard...which is why we bought them!

Sennheiser HD 580's

High definition headphones which provide detailed playback ideal both for precision editing tasks and monitoring during recording.

Mackie Tapco S8's

Smaller (and cheaper!) than the TB2S-A's, these monitors are mostly used on location or where portablility is more important than super-detailed monitoring.

Console

Digi 002

Our Digi 002 digital mixing console acts as the center of the Studio and integrates perfectly with our ProTools DAW. Automated faders mean that a session can be put aside and recalled instantly at a later date at the touch of a button.

Digital Audio Workstation

Digidesign ProTools 7

We run Protools on a high performance Carillon AC-1 music PC which has been optimised for audio recording. In our experience ProTools is the best recording software out there and it's popularity with the industry is unparalleled allowing for greater compatability with other studios.

TC Electronic Powercore Firewire

In addition to ProTools running on the Carillon, our studio features a Powercore Firewire DSP unit to provide extra high quality effects and processing power.
