Mixing

Mixing is the process of balancing the volume levels of the parts, panning (stereo placement) and adding effects such as compression and reverb. It is at the mixing stage that a recording is shaped from its bare bones into a well produced sound and there is considerable scope for creative production at this stage.

The first stage of mixing which involves setting levels and basic effects is usually done in the absence of the band as it can be very time intensive and relies on the mixer having an excellent knowledge of the listening environment. All our packages include this service at no extra cost and creative concepts for the mix can be outlined as part of the production plan prior to mixing. When the mix is close to being finished, we will invite back to the studio to have a listen and make any final adjustments before finalizing.

Some bands or artists may wish to take a more active role in mixing and be present for the whole process. This is treated as an extra recording session, but with a reduced rate.
